When this year began (2016 I mean), I decided that this would be the year for something new. Something huge. Something that I haven’t done before.
First that came to mind was a sweater. I have knitted a sweater before but only according to the pattern. Knitting a sweater from point zero - that was something new, and huge, and something I haven’t done before.
Naturally my “go to” page for sweater courses was Craftsy. Did you know that they have 14 classes just for sweaters? I counted you know…
I had a hard time to choose from so many, but I narrowed my search. As you know I’m all about cables and lace, so it had to be this kind of class. Now I had 5 courses left.
Basically, I just chose the one that looked the best… this one:

Now Mondays are my Vogue sweater challenge days.
Remember, last time I calculated all my stitches and pattern repeats? Well, I have finished my front…
If you want to check out the challenge from the beginning then look here:
If I had to sum it up into one sentence - I’m more or less satisfied, BUT…
- I think I made mistakes when I calculated - I sorted it out as I knitted but still…
- And my shoulder shaping is little off - it will fit, but I think that shoulders should be little bit longer. I think I’ll frog it and make it perfect, because…you know…it will haunt me ’til the end of time…
See?

I won’t stress over it too much though. I’m happy with it over all - just little tweaks here and there. No big deal.
And to finish my post on a positive side - here is a little behind the scene picture:

Usually, my bed is full of stuff - that way I have to put all of it back to their right places (I’m bad at it)…
Now tell me - what is your knitting challenge this year?

Hi, I’ve just completed a swing cabled cardi for Spring (we hope to get a Spring soon) I’m now working on a cabled hooded top for my nephews daughter. My challenge for January was to get my head around Brioche which I think I have achieved so my next challenge will be to do a scarf or shawl in Brioche I think. I also want to work on a firefly shawl for my Sisters Birthday in September, and a Melancholy scarf for myself - so I guess SHAWLS will be my challenge this year.
Nice going with your sweater, I love cables and have been doing them since my teens.
Tina
Wow, you have big plans 🙂 Firefly is on my plan too, but I’m not sure if I have time…We’ll see 🙂 I love knitting this sweater - it grows surprisingly fast 🙂
Cables are my favorite things!
I love the sweater and the color you are making. I am knitting the Magique (not sure of the spelling) Cloak in Koigu yarn. It is a kit that I bought many years ago but never found the time to make it.
Thanks and good luck 🙂 Sometimes we need to wait a right time to start with something 🙂
Hi I love your posts, great job on your sweater. My goal right now is to finish projects started for others. Then I’m going to knit for me, and design my own shawls. That’s just a start….. Learn, learn and relearn
That’s a solid plan 🙂 There are times when I miss knitting for myself - I can’t say it now though 🙂
