“Pattern from history” posts were born when my lovely grandmother gave me all (well, almost all) of her old pattern sheets. And it was many. She collected those years and years and I think it’s a fantastic reflection of knitting history of our little country.

To make this little bit personal, I try to put little bit history of Estonia behind the year of the pattern. And I try to add all that my grandmother can remember and can tell me.

I added “can tell me” because my granny is little protective of me – she shares what she thinks I can handle – I’m a sensitive nature you see 🙂

I love her for that, but I can’t always get the hole truth about all that have happened.

What can I say about this pattern… 

First of all, I had this strange feeling that I have seen this stitch pattern somewhere before (maybe I just had a sweater with this pattern knitted by my granny). So, to prevent all the angry emails saying I used this and this stitch (OK, I’ve never received one, but I’m gonna prevent it anyway), I’ll just call it “something from 1981”. Cool?

This is your pattern for blankets and washcloths. Nice and firm. But not heavy – not my swatch at least.

And I’d like to draw your attention to pictures you can see on right – one above is front side of the pattern and one below is back side of the pattern. Very decorative on both sides.

Pattern is simple and pattern repeat is 2 sts.

*Please note that by the end of row 1 you’ll have more stitches then when you started. This is normal and you’ve done everything correctly*
