Pattern From History Simple Texture from 1961

“Pattern from history” posts were born when my lovely grandmother gave me all (well, almost all) of her old pattern sheets. And it was many. She collected those years and years and I think it’s a fantastic reflection of knitting history of our little country.

To make this little bit personal, I try to put little bit history of Estonia behind the year of the pattern. And I try to add all that my grandmother can remember and can tell me.

I added “can tell me” because my granny is little protective of me – she shares what she thinks I can handle – I’m a sensitive nature you see ?

I love her for that, but I can’t always get the hole truth about all that have happened.

Today’s pattern is coming from 1961 again. Wanted to sell your knitted items? Well, you couldn’t – it was forbidden (for little bit history check out this post).

Decorative edging for gloves

This stitch pattern is for mittens and gloves. Not exactly for total beginners. But if you have knitted in rounds and you have tried knitting with two colors then you’re good to go.

I started to knit it like any other project and surprise struck like a lightning. “Genius – knitter who thought about it must be pure genius” I though as the pattern started forming. Howcome I never thought about it?

Look at the purple and white part… Texture is rich and gives the impression of hard work… Here’s a secret – it’s actually knit round, purl round – effect comes from alternating colors…

Isn’t it magical? Well, maybe you knew that already, but it was new to me. Something so simple – wow 😀

So here is the pattern for you:

Pattern is for mittens or gloves with stitch count 50 stitches. Knitted in rounds. MC being main color and AC being alternative color.
