easy knit hat pattern

This simple knit hat pattern is effortless to work. The stitch is easy to remember and it will knit up quickly. Also, it is a perfect hat for men as well, as the pattern texture is modest.

Originally this hat was meant to be a “work hat”. Meaning, it needed to be fitted and snug. If you want a looser hat, use thicker yarn leaving the stitch count the same, or follow the instructions in parentheses.

Also, if you want your hat to be more slouchy then knit the length you want it to be, and then start with decreases.

The pattern I used is from the post “25 simple knit stitch patterns for beginners” (it’s stitch pattern #6).

I know this is a silly question, but what is the normal height for knitted beanies? I ask because you said to repeat rows 1 and 2 until it was 2/3 of the hat length. Thanks in advance and thanks for a great site with clear instructions….Have a great day..Judy 🙂

I think it depends on how you like your hats to be. Some people prefer when the hat is tight and snug – then you measure from the forehead to top of the head, and take 2/3 of it.

I personally prefer if the hat is slouchy (in case I want to tie my hear, etc.). Then I just knit until I feel it has enough excess and then do the decreases.

I’m sorry if my answer is confusing. I’ve compared different beanies and they all have different lengths. So I think there is no “normal height”.

But if I have to say something then I’ll say -> 10 inches to 11.5 inches.
