“Pattern from history” posts were born when my lovely grandmother gave me all (well, almost all) of her old pattern sheets. And it was many. She collected those years and years and I think it’s a fantastic reflection of knitting history of our little country.
To make this little bit personal, I try to put little bit history of Estonia behind the year of the pattern. And I try to add all that my grandmother can remember and can tell me.
I added “can tell me” because my granny is little protective of me – she shares what she thinks I can handle – I’m a sensitive nature you see ?
I love her for that, but I can’t always get the hole truth about all that have happened.

Wow, I really really loved this pattern. I already know where I’m going to use it, but I’m not telling 😀 Not because I’m bully (well, maybe little bit), but because I don’t want to promise anything.
Remember how I showed you future lace shawl and promised you the pattern? I’m still promising you that but I’ve “frogged” it 10 times now (OK, six….but still…). Pattern you saw – it’s not existing anymore… and it will take time….
This netting pattern is from 1988 and it’s fantastic. I think I’m telling this all the time 🙂 But it really is this way.
It was easy to knit. But be careful and notice what you’re doing. Maybe it’s not the pattern to try if you’re watching NCIS and Ziva is doing something cool 😀 (yes, I love her and how she’s kicking some ***** – and while we’re on the subject then I love Castle too 😀 )
On with knitting. Pattern repeat is 4 stitches + 5 (1+4) stitches to edges. And this is how you do it:
Row 1: k1, (YO, sk2p, YO, k1) rep to last 4 sts, YO, sk2p, YO, k1;
Row 2: purl;
Row 3: k2tog, (YO, k1, YO, sk2p) rep to last 4 sts, YO, k1, YO, ssk;
Row 4: purl;
of all those you presented , it’s my favorite !
Actually it’s in my top 3 as well – I’m having hard time to choose 😀 Other ones are my very first one “Lace with cables” and “Airy Silhouette” 🙂
I made some shopping bags using a two row pattern,row 1 any number of stitches as long as it ended with an even number. Row 2knit 2 together,Yarn over repeat. These two rows produce a left leaning netting fabric that is very stretchy. I hope your father is doing good with his chemo, that it is not making him sick like it does to some people.
Thanks for additional netting pattern – I’ll try it. Actually it’s good for him now. He has made new friends and he is feeling very good. We know it might change, but we’ll take it day by day and stay positive. Thank you for thinking of us 🙂
