Knitting Q&A I don't have a proper number of stitches on my needles. What am I doing wrong Pattern Duchess
Knitting Q&A: I don't have a proper number of stitches on my needles. What am I doing wrong?
  1. Use markers for every pattern repeat. It is a great visual and you can spot an error quite easily and quickly.
  2. Make sure you are working your “yarn overs” properly. Knitting “yarn overs” out of order or inadvertently knitting them with another stitch will cause issues. Sometimes they link themselves to the stitch next to them looking like one stitch and get worked as one stitch instead of two.
  3. It might be helpful if you count every stitch as you knit it. Also saying the stitch name out loud can help.
  4. As you knit keep an eye on the previous row so you know what stitches you’re supposed to be knitting into. If you see that the next stitch should be worked into a yarn over and it isn’t there, then you have quickly found a lost stitch.
  5. If the missing stitch is a yarn over then all you have to do is to pick up the yarn between the two stitches where it belongs and knit/purl into that; fixed without “tinking” or “frogging”!
