I do like your picnic shawl. It looks comfortable and easy to wear with all sorts of clothes, elegant as well as casual. Thank you! And, please, do not dispair too badly re. your cold island. I live in an environment (the Sonoran Desert) of which today will maybe top out at 107 degrees. Just the opposite but still very, very challenging to deal with when your heart pines for coolness and wool. (Buck naked is not even cool enough.) Hang in there. Come to the desert in August and you can experience it first hand. You will sing the praises of the inventor of the air conditioner forever. A hot bath, tequila, and good thyroid function will see you through. Hope your Trails are Happy. Sincerely, Yarnferret on Ravelry
Oh, thank you, Judy, for reminding me that things could be worse. It’s human nature, I guess, to want something better… always 🙂 I have to admit – after all – our weather is OK 🙂
Thank you. Your picnic shawl looks delicious…
You are very talented !
Thank you! I just love knitting 🙂
Gorgeous shawl and I am sure I will be knitting it. Thank you so much
Thank you, Nilda 🙂
This will be my next project. Thank you for sharing the pattern.
Can’t wait to try it. I have pale pink yarn I’m dying to use.
It will be fantastic, I’m sure, Barbara.
I hardly can wait to startt it. It seems so beautiful.
lovely! I am making this one, or the shawl of solitaire, they both are beautifull
Thank you! I hope you’ll enjoy knitting it 🙂
The shawl looks absolutely beautiful! However I’m having some trouble with knitting the pattern (I’m sure it’s a misunderstanding on my end, please don’t think that I’m criticising. I’m just confused and I’m hoping someone would be able to help me). It seems as though the 107 cast on stitches and the stitches needed for the pattern aren’t lining up for me, and when I make calculations I seem to come up with more stitches needed for the preparing pattern, I’m getting maybe 119 stitches needed. The chart boxes seems to line up correctly – ((19×4) for the outside pattern + 25 for the centre pattern + 6 for the garter edging = 107 chart boxes total), but obviously for ssk and k2tog it has only one chart box for a technique that uses 2 stitches and the chart doesn’t take that into account. Or perhaps I’m misunderstanding a few of the techniques? I’m still quite a new knitter so there could be some key information that I’m missing. Thank you so much for your help!
No worries, I’ll explain. 107 stitches is a correct statement – “ssk” or “k2tog” as a decrease has one box on the chart because “yo” as an increase has one box that will even all the decreases. Does this make sense?
Hello. I started knitting this as well and had the exact same issue as Isabella. At first, I thought I made a mistake but then on a second try I had the same result
Hi! I am currently knitting this (beautiful) shawl for my grandmother, and I ran into a bit of a problem while knitting the preparing pattern. In the middle pattern (the pattern you only repeat once) the outside hole designs are separated by one stitch, even though all the other hole designs are directly diagonal to each other. This means that when I k2tog, I knit the stitch directly above the last hole, which deforms it a little. I think I’m off by one stitch, but I don’t know why, since the rest of the pattern seems fine. At first I thought it was just a mistake, but I tried again and got the same thing. I hope that makes sense 🙂
It’s hard to say why that may be. Do you have all your yarn overs? And decreases (ssk and k2tog)? Also, it might be helpful to count stitches after every “block” you work.
Hi, I just stumbled across this and would love to try it! I am a beginner. Can I use a long circular 4mm needle? I don’t have the separate needles at the moment. Thanks!
Hi, yes, you can use those needles. No problem at all.
Do you have a pdf for this lacy picnic shawl?
I’m wanting to add it to my “knitting companion” app to better keep track of my rows.
Unfortunately, I don’t. One option would be to copy and past the pattern to your word document and convert it to pdf maybe?
Under “start with preparing pattern” I noticed there is no row 10? It goes from 9 to 11.
I’m sorry, I think I don’t understand. Row 10 is a wrong side row and it is worked as all other wrong side rows.
