Introduction to Arctic Light Sweater by Veronika Lindberg:

In the vast sea of sweater knitting patterns available, every so often, one catches your eye and whispers a promise of something special. This was precisely my experience when I stumbled upon the Arctic Light Sweater by Veronika Lindberg, a designer renowned for beautiful sweaters, pullovers, and cardigans. Drawn by exquisite cables, I knew this sweater was destined to be on my needles.

This pattern has been on my Ravelry favorites for some time now, among many others, and cable sweaters are a bit intimidating for me. Choosing to knit this particular sweater was driven by the need for something interesting, and exciting, so I don’t feel the fear too much. My initial expectation was to knit something that would give me experience in sweater knitting, and I’m glad I chose this one because it gave me something more.

I was eager to see if the finished sweater would live up to my expectations and whether the pattern itself would offer the intricacy promised by its designer.

The suggested yarn was Along Avec Anna Silk Mohair and Sandnes Garn Double Sunday. I used Garnstudio DROPS Merino Extra Fine
The needed gauge was 22 stitches and 26 rows = 10 cm
The skill level required is intermediate. I recommend that you familiarize yourself with all the cables used. They were not the easiest ones, but oh so beautiful.

Note that the pattern is charted only! You have to be ok with the charts.

Knitting Experience:

I had fun knitting this sweater. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. There were no errors, and I adore the cable choices used. Love it!

I can’t tell the proper timing for this sweater, because I started it just before I hurt my hand. It took me about a year to knit it as I couldn’t knit a lot in one sitting. But I think it’s a quick knit – the sweater grew fast, and was interesting to knit all the way.

Fit and Sizing:

There are 7 sizes for this sweater (XS to 3XL). I chose size M (I wear EU size 36) and I’m glad I did. It’s not too tight, neither not too loose.

I did modify the sleeves though. The sleeves were too “puffy” or “baggy”, meaning the upper part was too wide for my liking. I adjusted the decreases, and I’m quite happy with the outcome.

Oh, the original pattern is a cropped version, but I made mine longer. Normal sweater size.

Challenges and Tips:

The most challenging was to keep me on track with all the different charts, but if you take notes on where you stopped, then you’ll be fine.

I recommend you to see all the Ravelry projects and comments that people have made about this sweater.
Swatch all the cables before starting the actual project. It is so helpful to know what’s to come.
The pattern recommends using smaller size needles for the collar. I recommend using larger-size needles instead if you don’t want the collar to be too tight. Some people used short rows (I read someone’s project notes).

Overall Opinion:

Overall, I loved this project and would recommend it to everyone! I loved all the cables, I loved the double-knit collar, and I really loved the flow of it all.

I think I might knit it again using either the recommended yarn or something similar with mohair. I must admit I’m a bit afraid of using mohair, I don’t like the fuzziness much. But maybe it’s not that fuzzy when I use it with some other yarn?

Anyway, my overall opinion – loved it and would knit again!
