The single cast on is the easiest cast on method in my opinion. First round/row is a bit tricky to knit, but it’s fantastic for lace projects. Nicely stretchy and elastic.

This cast on is also good to use in the middle of the project, where you have to cast on stitches at the end of the row.

Step 1

Make a slip stitch (counts as the first stitch).

Step 2

Hold the needle in your right hand and grab (the longer) yarn into your left-hand palm.

Step 3

Make a round with your right-hand thumb so that you grab the yarn coming from your palm and form a loop (loop-ish thing).

Step 4

Insert the needle from left to right and remove your thumb.

Step 5

Tighten up (not extremely tight though – it will be hard to knit).
