So here’s what you need to line your Christmas stocking:

• fabric for lining;
• needle;
• thread;
• sewing machine (optional);
• iron;
• pins;
• scissors;

Before we start, I want you to know that I am not a sewer. I’m far from it. Like…way over there behind that hill you don’t see…

But we can still do a simple lining for a stocking. Right? So, let’s get started:

Iron your fabric

Fold it in half

Set stocking on to the fabric

Trace with pencil

Remove stocking, and draw another line inside of your first line (1 cm apart from first) – this is for sewing part.

Before you cut it out, put pins through both layers – this way you can cut both fabric layers at once

(yes, there are pins…)

Now cut the lining out

Sew two sides together leaving top side opened (sew along the inner line you draw). I used my sewing machine, but you can also sew by hand.

Now put it inside of your stocking

Fit lining nicely inside, fold a bit of knitted edging inside (over the lining), and sew. You can use sewing machine, but I sewed it by hand.

Usually, if I’m knitting a Christmas stocking, I will work one knit round and one purl round before I start with the pattern work, just for this turning purpose. Working the beginning this way will ensure me that I can easily fold the edging, and the outcome will be nice and crisp.
