Inspiration behind this Christmas stocking pattern
A few years back, I was at a family Christmas gathering. Like it usually tends to be – many adults, a lot of kids, too much to eat and drink. All the gifts were given, wishes exchanged and, while I should have felt happy and joyful, I felt a sudden sadness instead.
All I could see around me was a bunch of soulless, meaningless, soon to be garbage plastic stuff, and my mind went off to wonder. We work really hard to buy things we don’t like to impress people we don’t even know anymore (yes, including family), and we all know where it all ends up. When did it get so impersonal? Where did we go wrong?
As I came out of my wondering trail of thoughts, I decided then and there, that there will be no soulless random gifts from me anymore.
So, this Christmas stocking along with many more stockings to come is brought to you with these thoughts in mind. This was my inspiration. Thinking about Christmas Past, and hoping for a Christmas Future – creating a Christmas Present that is priceless.
This Christmas stocking is worked top-down and knitted in rounds – like old times. The heel is worked in a heel flap technique, but you can use any heel technique you love as it is knitted with a solid color. The pattern is accompanied by charts for easier following (and you could also use them for cross stitch).

100 g / 164 yds of White 10 ply / aran / worsted weight yarn;
100 g / 164 yds of Red 10 ply / aran / worsted weight yarn;

NEEDLES
double-pointed needles (or circulars) in size 5 mm / US 8

FINISHED SIZE (after blocking)
Total length is approx 60 cm / 23,5 inches
Length of the cuff is approx 34 cm / 13,5 inches
Approx circumference (above the heel) is 32 cm / 12,5 inches
